About the Artwork of Michael "GrayWolf" Ballew

O'SIYO (welcome) friends... SPIRITS AND COLORS are two of the main traits that define my art. I seek to celebrate and honor nature and convey its spirit within each piece. I spend a great deal of time listening to nature and learning the lessons it has to teach. As a result, I look for signs and "spirits" in my subjects and allow them to guide me along the way. The end goal – to show ordinary objects in extraordinary ways.

American Indian Artist Certificate of Authenticity

I am an enrolled member of the Echota Cherokee Tribe and meet the requirements of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990.  All artwork and crafts designated as Native American Art, traditional or modern, comes with an American Indian Artist Certificate of Authenticity.

Why Art...my philosophy

I am deeply motivated by a passion and desire to connect the past and present with a hopeful eye towards a brighter future. In my opinion, this can only be  accomplished through an appreciation of lessons learned from the past and a focus on empathy and understanding between the diverse cultures and communities of which our nations and the world is comprised. Art is an excellent mode of expression and can break down barriers that otherwise separate.

Art can communicate when all else fails.
