I am a self-taught artist whose main medium of expression is mixed media. My creations incorporate the use of various discarded materials (wood, glass, vintage books, saw dust, etc.) and paint - all with an "outsider art" flair. Influences of my Native American Indian heritage are evident in much of my work. The result is a unique piece of work that reaches out to the viewer with the spirits and colors of the subject. I am very fortunate to be able to say that my work is collected nationally.
A native small-town Southerner, I was raised on a farm in Northern Alabama. I was exposed to all aspects of nature and was taught an appreciation for what it can offer. Following in the footsteps and teachings of my Cherokee ancestors, I learned to listen to nature and seek guidance from my surroundings. These life lessons and messages are incorporated into my work and are often seen as whimsical and surreal with a folk art quality.
My art took an even deeper spiritual turn in 2011. I was involved in a fight with a lawn tractor - and the tractor won - at least in that moment. The tractor I was loading onto a trailer flipped over backwards on top of me. Through the grace of God and a lot of help from my guardian angels, I survived the accident with a broken back - but thankfully, no paralysis.
With a renewed appreciation of life, I found it even more important to share with others through my art. The resulting influence of "Old Southern Churches" and "Angels" added a new dimension to my work. This work has been well received.
As an artist, my goal is to create pieces that affect others. In describing this desire and deep-seated purpose in my work, It is my sincere desire to bring enjoyment to others through my work. Along the way, however, I want to take them into a deeper appreciation of the simple things - the things that we often take for granted."
As you view my work, I encourages you to look first for enjoyment… then allow the piece to provoke your imagination… stir emotions… and in the end, experience its true SPIRITS AND COLORS."
